On the 5th February last The Welsh Karate/Kickboxing Association which is part of the World Renowned Organisation of the World Karate and Kickboxing Association held its very first tournament in Wales at the Michael Sobell Leisure Centre in Aberdare.

The day was a huge success with countries competing from as far as India , France and Ireland with clubs and organisations also travelling from all parts of the United Kingdom.

The day was very important for Lynne Tolcher-James who is the Welsh President of the Light Contact Section for the World Karate/Kickboxing Association with Jason Griffiths being The Welsh Representative.

Proving to be unbeatable Lynnes` students stormed through their categories and not one of them returned without a trophy.  An excellent display of martial arts from one club who were congratulated by everyone on the day for their outstanding ability - 8 fighters - 13 trophies:

 6 First Places – 4 Second  Places -  3 Third Places.

1st Place Semi-Contact – Little Ninja:  Joshua Harris age 6 years – Novice Fighter

1st Place Semi-Contact – Ninja Kid:  Ryan Newman age 12 years – Novice Fighter

2nd Place Seni-Contact – Ninja Kid:  Christopher Short age 13 years

2nd Place Semi-Contact – Little Ninja :  Kyron Caddick age 8 years – Kyron was quite poorly                        on the day and wasn`t able to fight up to his normal standard.

3rd Place Semi-Contact – Little Ninja   Jamie Rasis age 9 years

3rd Place Semi-Contact – Ninja Kid:     Joshua Barker age 12 years – Novice Fighter

1st Place Light Contact – Little Ninja:  Joshua Harris

1st Place Light Contact – Ninja Kid:  Ryan Newman

1st Place Light Contact – Ninja Kid:  Joshua Barker

1st Place Light Contact – Little Ninja:  Jamie Rasis

2nd Place Light Contact – Little Ninja:  Kiya Glanville age 7 years – Novice Fighter

2nd Place Light Contact – Little Ninja:  Kyron Caddick

3rd Place Light Contact – Little Ninja:  Thomas Harris

Unfortunately, not one of the above fighters were old enough to take part in the Challenge for the “Grand Championship” as they had to be 14 years and above with Chris Short narrowly missing his chance.

The WKA will shortly be holding the qualifying round for those who wish to take part in the forthcoming World Championships
